Film making in Nepal near Mount Everest supported by structured line production, altitude logistics planning, and remote terrain coordination.

Our film fixer Nepal service supports visiting productions with location recce, access coordination and daily filming arrangements. Global Producers works with local personnel and suppliers to organise the support required for the brief, from preparation through the agreed filming days.

A fixer can be engaged independently or alongside a line-production team. The appointment identifies the locations, tasks, reporting arrangements and any authority to make bookings or spend an operating allowance. Permissions remain subject to the responsible authorities and location owners.

Film Fixers in Nepal: Location Recce and Access

A recce starts from the scene requirements: the setting, the time of day, the size of the unit and the equipment it brings. Each candidate location is visited where access allows and recorded against those requirements, so the visiting team can compare options before anything is booked. The recce report for each location covers:

  • Location photographs or video from the proposed camera positions, where access allows.
  • Checks against the scene requirements, including orientation, light and what is visible in frame.
  • Owner or custodian contacts and the access terms proposed in discussion.
  • Available space for crew, equipment, vehicles, holding and catering.
  • Sound, public activity, power, water and other conditions relevant to the planned work.
  • Outstanding permissions and unanswered questions to be resolved before a decision.

A recce identifies options and constraints. It does not guarantee that a location will be available on the dates, that the owner will agree to the terms discussed, or that a permission will be granted; those outcomes rest with the people and bodies responsible for the site.

Permit Applications and Location Coordination

The fixer helps assemble the project information required for the applicable applications and coordinates with the appointed applicant or Nepali production partner. The assigned work can include tracking submissions, relaying queries and communicating approval conditions to the relevant departments.

Application documents, location charges and Nepal filming permits are checked against the production format and proposed itinerary before bookings are committed. Location-specific approvals, such as heritage sites, protected areas or aerial work, are confirmed with the responsible body for each site rather than assumed from a general filming permission. The fixer coordinates the information and the follow-up; approval decisions and their timing remain with the authorities.

Local Crew, Equipment and Transport

Local crew are sourced against the brief: the departments the visiting unit needs filled, the dates and the working language on set. Availability is confirmed for the specific period and quotations are obtained in writing. Where the appointment authorises it, the fixer places the bookings; otherwise the quotations go to the visiting production for approval and contracting.

Equipment is sourced from local rental suppliers against the department lists, with availability and quotations confirmed for the dates. Quotations for crew and equipment identify the relevant inclusions, working hours, overtime, transport and cancellation terms, so the production can compare them on the same basis.

For equipment travelling with the unit, the customs broker confirms the entry and return procedure, the supporting inventory and any security required before the shipment is prepared. The fixer coordinates the ground side of arrival, transfer and return. No clearance route, deposit or carnet arrangement is assumed in advance.

Transport is arranged by vehicle type and day, with the driver, fuel basis and route stated. Moves between regions are planned against the schedule, with accommodation and meal arrangements confirmed for each leg.

Fixing Support in Kathmandu, Pokhara and Regional Locations

Kathmandu Valley

In the Kathmandu Valley the recce covers heritage squares, temples, streets, markets and private interiors. The fixer holds the owner or custodian discussions, checks public access patterns at the planned hours, confirms where vehicles can load, park and hold, and records the conditions each site attaches to filming, including hours, crew numbers, equipment and any supervision required.

Pokhara

For Pokhara the fixer confirms location access for lakeside, town and foothill settings, and arranges accommodation and transport for the actual itinerary, including transfers and onward travel where required. Suppliers available locally are confirmed against the brief, with anything travelling from Kathmandu included in the schedule.

Regional and Mountain Locations

Outside the main centres the fixer checks routes, road conditions and transport options for the dates, confirms local contacts for each location, and arranges communications where mobile coverage is limited. Where the brief includes mountain or high-altitude work, the fixer coordinates with qualified local specialists on acclimatisation, medical support and evacuation arrangements and includes them in the plan. Fixing support organises that specialist input; it does not replace medical or safety expertise.

Shoot-Day Coordination and Changes

On filming days the fixer coordinates the assigned local arrangements against the agreed shooting schedule: locations opened within the agreed hours, the owner or custodian and any required supervisor met, supplier arrivals coordinated, and the agreed access conditions communicated to the unit. A film fixer in Nepal is the local point of contact for the visiting team on the ground, with a record kept of what was arranged, what changed and what was spent locally.

Changes affecting cost, access or the shooting schedule go to the named decision-maker on the visiting production, with the options and their implications where known. The fixer reports issues promptly, identifying available options and any known cost or scheduling implications.

At the end of the engagement the assigned tasks are completed: equipment returned to suppliers and signed off, supplier records and receipts handed over, and any outstanding location matters, such as a custodian’s sign-off or a pending charge, reported for the production to close.

When the Brief Also Needs a Line Producer

A fixer’s appointment may include local bookings and an operating allowance, depending on the agreement. It does not automatically include responsibility for the overall production budget or shooting schedule.

A line producer in Nepal develops and manages the wider budget, schedule and supplier commitments within the agreed appointment. Fixing and line production can be commissioned separately or together, with responsibilities and spending authority made explicit.

Defining the Nepal Fixing Brief

To define the Nepal film fixer appointment, the production supplies:

  • Script, treatment or scene requirements.
  • Proposed dates and locations.
  • Unit size and travelling departments.
  • Crew and equipment needed locally.
  • Recce requirements.
  • Transport and accommodation requirements.
  • Booking authority, operating allowance and reporting expectations.

The agreed brief identifies what the fixer will coordinate, what remains with the visiting production and which arrangements require approval before commitment.
